Tom Ehmann is a clinical psychologist who received his PhD from Queens University in 1989. His MA and PhD theses examined the influence of dopamine on symptoms in schizophrenia and Parkinsons disease. He has maintained both clinical and research interests in psychosis. He has 29 peer reviewed publications and acted as a peer reviewer for multiple journals. Clinically, he provided assessment and therapy services at Mental Health Centres, outpatient and inpatient units in hospitals and through private practice. His most recent clinical work was as a CBT therapist with HIV positive individuals at the Immunodeficiency Clinic at St Paul’s.
In 1999 he became the Director of the BC Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Project and has been deeply involved with furthering early psychosis intervention in BC ever since. Dr. Ehmann, together with Dr. Laura Hanson, were the senior authors of the Provincial EPI Standards and Guidelines, the EPI Provincial Evaluation Framework, the Dealing with Psychosis Toolkit and the book, Best Care in Early Psychosis: Global Perspectives.
Dr. Ehmann worked on the creation of the EPI Advanced Practice in 2011, he has been closely involved in almost all provincially-oriented initiatives for the past 20 years.
Tom lives in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast and likes to spend as much time as possible messing around on his sailboat. Despite using best practices psychotherapy, the diesel motor of that boat still misbehaves!
Dr. Ashok Malla is a Professor of Psychiatry at McGill University, with an adjunct appointment in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Early Psychosis and Early Intervention in Youth Mental Health, and editor of Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology and a recipient of an honorary doctorate from l’Université de Montréal. He has been a leader in eary intervention in psychosis since the mis 1990s, broadening that to the larger field of Youth Mental Health in the last few years. In addition to leading many clinical and services based research projects in Canada, he has lead two global mental health projects in Chennai and Kashmir. Currently he leads a $25M, CIHR funded national SPOR project on trnsformation of youth mental healht services (ACCESS OPEN MINDS Canada). He has published more than 375 peer-reviewed articles, help numerous peer-reviewed research grants and supervised many graduate and post-doctoral trainees. He considers himself a stron advocate for evidence infomed high quality care for the seriously mentally ill.
Dr. Sam Chang is a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. He received his M.D. and general psychiatry residency a the University of Calgary. He completed an Adolescent Chemical Dependency Fellowship at the MAYO Clinic and a Pediatric Psychopharmacolocy Fellowship at the University of Toronto. Dr. Chang is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine. He is also an accredited faculty with the Reach Institute of New York. He is the Medical Director of the Adolescent Addictions Program and admits to the Young Adult Program Adolescent Psychiatry Unit both located at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. He does numerous clinical trials; and continues to see new consultations in his office. He is a member of the Executive Advisory Board of CADDRA (Canadian ADHD/ADD Resource Alliance). Dr. Chang is a past board member of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and past President of the Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with the Alberta Medical Association. He is especially proud of being made Honorary Medicine Man.
